John Lindsay-Poland de Oakland, California es director del programa Latino Americano Confraternidad de Reconciliacion (Fellowship Reconciliation, FOR). John Lindsay-Poland (Oakland, California) is director since 1989 of the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) Latin America program. I founded FOR's Colombia accompaniment team; and have written about US militarism and bases in Latin America, including a report on US military assistance to Colombia and civilian killings, and Emperors in the Jungle: The Hidden History of the US in Panama. I served with Peace Brigades International (PBI) in Guatemala and El Salvador, and co-founded PBI's Colombia Project. My hope for the encuentro is to develop relationships and strategies that help us coordinate effective international action against US militarism in the Americas.

Soy abogado de derecho civil, ha sido mi carrera de toda mi vida. En los tres últimos años he hecho, más que todo, acciones benéficas en cuanto a la ley de derechos humanos internacional. Principalmente, la representación de detenidos en Guantánamo.

Me involucre con el trabajo de solidaridad latinoamericano porque estoy fuertemente en contra del imperialismo estadounidense, su presencia militar abierta (por ejemplo, Colombia y Honduras) o políticas económicas neoliberal puestas en práctica por el Banco Mundial y Fondo Monetario Internacional, así como NAFTA, CAFTA, y tratados bilaterales (por ejemplo, Perú). Mi primera exploración comenzó en el bufete de abogados en Cuba (1965-66) y cortando caña de azúcar con la Brigada Venceremos (1971). I have been a civil rights lawyer my whole career. In the past three years I have done primarily pro bono international human rights law, primarily representing Guant?namo detainees.

I got involved in Latin American solidarity work because I strongly oppose U.S. imperialism, whether overt military presence (e.g., Colombia & Honduras) or neoliberal economic policies in part implemented by the World Bank and IMF, as well as NAFTA, CAFTA, and bi-lateral treaties (e.g., Peru). My exposure started being in the law firm for Cuba (1965-66) and cutting sugar cane with the Brigada Venceremos (1971). Since then I have had the pleasure of reality tours of Bolivarian alternatives in Bolivia, Ecuador, & Venezuela and attending the No Bases conference in Ecuador.

My current participation with SOAW has been partly legal assistance (e.g.,petition to the IACHR & planned FOIA suit) and partly body in place (e.g., solidarity visit of SOAW to Honduras starting with coup day 9). I am a member of PAL. I am a member of CISPES and had the opportunity to an international election observer for FUNDASPAD (which has fraternal relations with CISPES) for the historic presidential election of FMLN candidate Mauricio Funes.

I look forward to leadership and guidance from Global South as to the most useful directions that those of us in Global North can take to stem the tide of imperialism. I have no illusions about the importance or difficulty of the task.

Mi nombre es Dale Sorensen, vivo en el Condado Marin al norte de San Francisco cerca del Parque Nacional de Punto Reyes.

Soy Directora del Equipo Ecumenico para las Américas de Marin. Mi organización comenzó durante las guerras en América Central para organizar acciones en contra de la ayuda para los Contra y militares salvadoreños. En aquel tiempo trabajábamos contra las políticas estadounidenses que apoyaron militares que asesinaban a civiles en nombre de enfrentamientos contra el comunismo. Soy también parte del comité de coordinación de la Coalición de Solidaridad de América Latina (LASC) y más recientemente el Área de Bahía LASC.

Actualmente nuestra misión es la de educar a Norteamericanos sobre el papel de los EE.UU en las Américas y estar en solidaridad con movimientos sociales. Hemos ampliado nuestro enfoque a incluir América Central al Caribe (Cuba y Haití) y desde 2004 nos hemos ampliado para incluir toda Sudamérica. El tema de la Escuela de las Americas siempre surge cuando tratamos asuntos de militarizacion. Hemos estado trabajando para cerrar la escuela por muchos muchos años. Varios miembros de nuestra organizacion asistan a la vigilia anual y participan en el lobby contra SOA con sus congresistas. También intentamos hacer las conecciones entre las politicas económicas sobre la agresión militar e indicamos cuando vemos la criminalización de movimientos sociales luchando contra aquellas políticas.. Nos oponemos a acuerdos de cambio libre y apoyamos la cancelación de deudas para países pobres y muchas otras cuestiones relacionadas. Producimos un boletín de noticias trimestral, sostenemos acontecimientos educativos públicos y apoyamos delegaciones a América Latina de modo que los Norteamericanos puedan ver la realidad con sus propios ojos.

Actualmente, nosotros estamos muy preocupados e involucrados con los sucesos del golpe en Honduras, el terremoto en Haiti y los militares que siguen aumentanando en Colombia con el acceso adicional a 7 nuevas bases.

My name is Dale Sorensen, I live in Marin County north of San Francisco near Pt Reyes National Seashore and Park.

I am the Director of the Marin Interfaith Task Force on the Americas (more recently just the Task Force on the Americas). My organization began during the wars in Central America opposing Contra aid and aid to the Salvadoran military. In those days we were working against the US policies that supported militaries that were murdering civilians in the name of fighting communism. I'm also on the coordinating committees of the Latin America Solidarity Coalition (LASC) and more recently the Bay Area LASC

Currently our mission is to educate North Americans about the role of the US in the Americas and be in solidarity with grassroots social movements. We have expanded our focus from Central America to the Caribbean (Cuba and Haiti) and since 2004 expanded to include all of South America. Of course the SOA comes up whenever we expose military atrocities, etc and we have been working to close the school for many, many years and members are encouraged to attend the yearly vigil and talk to their members of congress. We also try and make the connections between political and economic policies and military aggression and point out when we see the criminalization of social movements fighting those policies.. We oppose free trade agreements and support debt cancellation for poor countries and many other related issues. We produce a quarterly newsletter, hold public educational events and support delegations to Latin America so that North Americans can see the realities for themselves.

Currently, we are very concerned and involved in the aftermath of the coup in Honduras, the earthquake in Haiti.and the military build up in Colombia with the additional access to 7 new bases.

I am extremely interested to hear what our neighbors to the south are concerned about and my hope would be that we get some clear sense of what they think we should be doing regarding the US militarization of their countries and related issues that most concern them.

Canadá - Juan Diego Castro

Hola, mi nombre es Juan Diego Castro, soy de Colombia pero vivo en Canadá hace diez años. Estoy terminando mis estudios en Ciencias Políticas y Estudios de Justicia Social y Paz en la universidad de Western Ontario en London, Ontario, Canadá. Vengo a El Encuentro en representación de la delegación de SOAW South Western Ontario, la cual es la delegación más grande de Canadienses que viaja a Fort Benning cada año.

SOAW cambio mi vida en la manera que me ha dado la oportunidad de reconectarme con las luchas sociales de Latinoamerica, y de esa manera a fortalecido mi identidad como una ciudadano global. Vengo a El Encuentro con la mente abierta, dispuesto a aprender de otros y con la intención de promover el conocimiento de esta experiencia al regresar a Canadá. Espero podamos conocernos muy pronto.

My name is Juan Diego Castro I'm originally from Colombia but have been living in Canada for the past 10 years. I have recently finished my undergrad Honours Double Major from Political Science and Social Justice and Peace Studies from the University of Western Ontario, in London Ontario, Canada. I'll be representing the SOAW South Western Ontario Delegation, which is the largest contingent of Canadians whom travel to Fort Benning. SOAW has changed my life in many respects. It has given me the opportunity to reconnect to the Latin American struggles and it has strengthened my identity as a global citizen. I intend to come to El Encuentro with an open mind, ready to learn from others and use my experience as a community organizer and activist to bring that knowledge back to Canada. I look forward to meeting you all.

Estados Unidos - Mara Bard

Mara Bard . Nacída y graduada de bioquímica en Argentina. Emigré al final de la década del 70 debido al terrorismo de Estado. Participo de la vigilia en Fort Benning desde principios de la década del 90. Participo en organizaciones relacionadas con derechos humanos e inmigración.. Co-coordinadora de Long Island SOAW. Nuestra misión es llegar a distintas comunidades con el mensaje de cerrar la SOA y cambiar la política exterior de EEUU hacia los países de América Latina. Organizamos eventos y promovemos la concurrencia especialmente de estudiantes a la vigilia anual en Fort Benning. Distribuimos “ Presente”. Encuentro nos permitirá aprender la mejor manera de ayudar a las luchas de resistencia en América Latina a la política exterior de EEUU. Y a mejorar el entendimiento entre la gente.

Mara Bard. Born and graduated as a biochemist in Argentina. Left Argentina at the end of the 70’s due to the state terrorism. I have participated in the vigil at Fort Benning Georgia since the beginning of the 90’s. I’m involved in many issues connected with Human rights and immigration. I am the co-coordinator of the Long Island SOAW. Our mission is to reach out to communities in regard to closing the SOA and the need to change the US foreign policy toward Latin America. We organize events, and promote people to go to Fort Benning on November. We distribute” Presente”. "Encuentro" will teach us how to help the resistance in Latin America to the oppressive US foreign policy and increase the understanding between people.

Estados Unidos- Patrick Sudlow

Mi nombre es Patrick Sudlow estudio en la Universidad de San Francisco, pero por el momento estoy estudiando en Córdoba, Argentina por un semestre. Estudio dos carreras, Administración de Negocios en Latinoamérica y Español. Empecé a involucrarme con las Escuelas de las Américas Watch cuando participe en la protesta y vigilia en 2007 con mi Liceo. Fui el presidente de SOA Watch en la Universidad de San Franciso en mi primer año y he regresado a Fort Benning con una delegación desde entonces. Este último verano fui uno de seis jóvenes haciendo mis pasantitas con Lisa Sullivan en nuestro PAL office en Barquisimeto. Espero que los representantes del hemisferio norte puedan proveer apoyo a nuestros hermanos y hermanas de Latinoamérica y aun más allá mantener este apoyo al finalizar el Encuentro.

I’m Patrick Sudlow and I attend the University of San Francisco; however, I am studying abroad in Córdoba, Argentina this semester. I am a Junior double major in Business Administration and Latin American Studies with a minor in Spanish. I got involved with the School of the Americas Watch when I attended the protest/vigil in 2007 with my high school. I became the president of the SOA Watch chapter at USF my freshmen year and have returned to Fort Benning with a delegation since. This past summer, I was one of six interns with Lisa Sullivan in our PAL Office in Barquisimeto. I hope that the Northern Representatives can provide support to our Southern brothers and sisters and more importantly, maintain this support after the Encuentro.

Mi nombre es William T. Whitney Jr. (me llaman Tom) vivo en South Paris Maine. Crecí en una granja de productos lácteos, trabaje por mas de 35 años como un pediatra, y tratando mantener una granja pequeña. I am William T. Whitney Jr. (called "Tom") living in South Paris Maine. I grew up on a dairy farm, worked 35 plus years as a pediatrician, try to keep a small farm going. Work with Let Cuba Live of Maine and Pastors for Peace, going on 4-5 Friendshipments. Have written for 5-6 years on Latin America and Cuba for Peoples Weekly World, traveled to Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela. We have recently formed the Maine Committee on Latin America and see that as a locus for activism on SOA Watch. My hope is to learn about the personalities, problems, and strategies involved with fight against US militarism in Latin America.

Me llamo Cheryl Ann Irving pero mis amigos Latinos y familiares siempre me han llamado Ani o Anita. Vivo con mi marido en Groveport, Ohio, un pequeño pueblo en las afueras de Columbus, la capital de Ohio. Durante los últimos 27 años me he dedicado a enseñar francés, alemán y español en el Liceo Groveport Madison. Antes de ello, enseñaba en la Universidad del Estado de Ohio.

Durante los últimos 8 años mis estudiantes y yo hemos hecho funcionar una pequeña fundación: "Los Abrazos para Los Niños Colombianos". Hemos ayudado a niños pobres e indígenas en Maicao, Sincelejo y Medellín, Colombia. También soy consejera del Club de Justicia del Liceo.

En 1974, a los 18 años, me casé con mi primer marido, un colombiano de Medellín.

En 1992 y 1993, trabajé como profesora y académica de los Estados Unidos para la organización Fulbright en Bogotá, Colombia. Comencé a interesarme por la justicia social el día en que Monseñor Romero fue asesinado.

En 2001, como miembro del Grupo de Trabajo en Latinoamérica de Ohio, fui arrestada en una protesta pacifica en la oficina de un senador de Estados Unidos. Desde entonces, he viajado cada año a Colombia para participar en esfuerzos por los derechos humanos de poblaciones pobres e indígenas en ese país. Mi mayor esperanza con respecto al Encuentro es encontrar una vía para el cierre pacífico y permanente de la Escuela de las Américas.

My name is Cheryl Ann Irving, but my friends and family always call me Ani or Anita. I live with my husband in Groveport, Ohio, a small town in the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio. During the last 27 years I have dedicated myself to teaching French, German and Spanish in Groveport Madison High School. Before that, I was teaching the University of Ohio.

During the last 8 years my students and I have created a foundation: "Los Abrazos para Los Niños Colombianos". We have helped poor and indigenous children en Maicao, Sincelejo and Medellin, Colombia. I am also the counselor for the Justice in High School club.

In 1974, at 18 years of age I got married to my first husband, a Colombian from Medellin.

In 1992 and 1993 I worked as a professor and academics in the United States for the organization Fullbright in Bogota, Colombia. I started getting interested in social justice the day Monsenor Romero was assassinated.

In 2001 as a member of the Working Party of Latin America in Ohio, I was arrested in a non-violent protest at the Senators office in the United States. Since then I have traveled every year to Colombia to participate in the fight for human Rights in poor and indigenous communities. My biggest hope with the Encuentro is to find a way for the permanent closing of the School of the Americas.

Estados Unidos - Colleen Kattau

Enseño literatura y cultura latinoamericana en la Universidad de Nueva York, Cortland. Vivo en una cooperativa donde mantengo un huerto de hierbas y vegetales, y también soy socia del hermanamiento Nueva York Central/ Cajibío, Colombia. Soy cantautora (con Jolie Rickman grabé un disco benéfico para SOAWatch, Cántalo pa' bajo). En el Encuentro, representaré las comunidades de Ithaca, Cortland y Syracusa. Espero compartir ideas e información acerca del activismo y arte y llevar lo que aprenda a mi comunidad local.

I teach Latin American Literature and Culture at State University of New York College at Cortland. I live on a land trust where I tend a big organic herb and vegetable garden, and belong to the Central New York/ Cajibio, Colombia Sister Community. I am also an activist singer/songwriter (co- recorded an SOAW benefit CD with Jolie Rickman called Sing it Down). I am representing the Central New York communities of Cortland, Ithaca and Syracuse at the Encuentro. I hope to exchange information and network with others about art activism and bring what I learn back to my local community.

Bill Strong Princeton NJ. Representa los Quakeres (Amigos) en Filadephia, una comunidad dedicada a la paz, a la igualdad y a la eco-justicia. Trabajó previamente con organizaciones no lucrativas en América Latina y el Caribe en el área de los derechos reproductivos de la mujer. Ha participado en la vigilia de SOAW por 4 años. Su esperanza es que juntos encontraremos nuevas maneras de terminar la violencia que viene de la política extranjera de SOA y de los E.E.U.U. Los que han vivido y han trabajado y amaron América Latina y su gente puede dedicarse y re-dedicarse para lograrlo.

Bill Strong, Princeton NJ . Represents Quaker body in Philadephia, committed to peace, equality and eco-justice. He previously worked with non profit organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean in the area of women´s reproductive rights. He has participated in the SOAW vigil for 4 years. His hope is that together we will find new ways to end the violence that comes from the SOA and US foreign policy. Those who have lived and worked and loved Latin America and its people can commit and recommit to do it.

ESTADOS UNIDOS - Chris Knestrick

My name is Christopher Knestrick and currently I live in Barrancabermeja, Colombia and work with the Christian Peacemaker Teams - Colombia Project. I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio in the United States. In 2004, I graduated from Mercyhurst College in 2004 with a degree in Religion Studies. Since, my college days, I have been participating the movement to close the School of Americas by organizing bus trip to Fort Benning, direct actions on campus, and public discussion to raise awareness. While, SOAW was my first introduction into solidarity work with Latin America, after college I continued the work in Cleveland with an solidarity organization called, InterReligious on Central America and Colombia (IRTF). While working for IRTF, I continued organizing for the SOAW at a local level by organizing highschool and college students to particpate in the the annual vigil and activities at the local level. Currently, I am working in Colombia with the Christian Peacemaker Teams. We work in the Magdelena media region accompanying community and social organizations. I have been here in Colombia for 2 years. I come to the encuentro representing the Christian Peacemaker Teams, an organization that has participated in the SOAW at many levels. My "greatest" hope for the Encuentro is that we develop a wonderful loved filled plan to end United States Imperialism and it works. However, my realistic hope for the ecuentro is that in listening to one another we understanding more deeply how to globalize resistance to United States imperialism in the Americas.

Mi nombre es Christopher Knestrick y actualmente vivo en Barrancabermeja, Colombia y trabajo con los Equipos de Christian Peacemaker - Proyecto de Colombia. Soy originalmente de Cleveland, Ohio en los Estados Unidos. En 2004, me gradué del Colegio Mercyhurst con un grado en Estudios de Religión. He estado aquí en Colombia durante 2 años. Vengo al Encuentro representando el Equipo de Christian Peacemaker, una organización que ha participado en el SOAW en muchos niveles. Mi "mayor" esperanza para el Encuentro es que desarrollamos un maravilloso plan lleno de amor de terminar el Imperialismo de los Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, mi esperanza realista para el Ecuentro es que al escuchar el uno al otro entremos en un entendiendo más profundamente de la resistencia global al imperialismo de los Estados Unidos en las Américas.

Estados Unidos - Maribel Gomez

En 2006 Maribel fundó el Comité Latino, junta con otros activistas de PCACS (Comité de Solidaridad con Centro América de Portland), con la meta de crear una nueva generación de liderazgo imigrante en Portland. El Comite Latino ha ofrecido talleres de desarrollo de liderazgo y educación política en las iglesias de Portland, como también, talleres avanzados para líderes emergentes. El Comité colabora en sus talleres con la oficina de Justicia y Paz de la Diocesis de Portland.

Estos talleres culminaron en una Conferencia de Derechos de los Inmigrantes que se realizará dentro del año. Una meta grande es el desarrollar 5 comités de base en cada una de las 5 iglesias que pueden mandar a sus representantes a la Coalición de Inmigrantes de Portland (PIRC). El Comité ha creado un comité central de 14 perrsonas y va a enviar a dos representantes al Foro Social de la Frontera en Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Pronto comenzarán a formar un comité femenino para motivar y facilitar la mayor participación de mujeres en liderazgo.

Mi esperanza para el Encuentro es poder construir puentes para enfrentar el militarismo en Latinoamerica y sacar el imperialismo que aplasta la esperanza a los pobres. Así enseñaremos a nuestros ninos lo que es humanidad.

A Resistir! Venceremos patria o muerte Honduras Vive.

Maribel Gomez has lived in Portland Oregon for 20 years, after coming to the U.S. as a political refugee 25 years ago.

In 2006 Maribel helped to found the Comite Latino, along with other PCASC activists, with the goal of developing a new generation of immigrant leadership in Portland. The Comite Latino provided leadership development and political education workshops in Portland churches as well as advanced workshops for emerging leaders. The Comite collaborates with the Portland Catholic Archdiocese’s Office of Justice and Peace and Catholic Charities in workshops.

These workshops culminated in an Immigrant Rights Conference to be held within the next year. One major goal is to develop 5 independent comites de base (base committees) in each of the five churches that can send their own representatives to the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC). The Comite has established a core committee of 14 people and will send two representatives to the Border Social Forum in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. They will soon form a women’s caucus in the Committee to encourage and facilitate women’s increased participation and leadership.

My hope for the Encuentro is that we can build bridges to confront the militarism in Latin America and the imperialism that undermines the hope of the poor. In doing so, we can show our children how to build a humane world. "Let us restist! We will overcome! Honduras lives!"

Estados Unidos - Erin Cox

Mi nombre es Erin Cox, actualmente vivo en Chicago IL. He estado trabajando con una organizacion llamada Octavo Dia de la Justicia por tres años. Esta es una organizacion la cual esta basada diferentes problemas mundiales con enfoque en la fe. Tenemos una larga historia del trabajo en solidaridad con Suramérica y America Central desde que esta organización comenzó hace 35 años. Durante la universidad viajé en una delegación con lol Cristianos para la Paz en El Salvador en donde primero oí y fui testigo del impacto del SOA en la gente, los movimientos y los líderes de resistencia en El Salvador. Viví más adelante en una granja en Honduras y en Guatemala en donde fui testigo de más impactos negativos de la política de los E.E.U.U.,de la dominación abrumadora, del control de los E.E.U.U. y de influencia corporativa internacional en la región.

Como mencione anteriormente, el personal de Centro del Octavo Dia día ha estado dedicado al movimiento de SOAW por años y continúa trabajando en un nivel local, nacional e internacional para levantar el conocimiento, ayuda y a participar en resistencia no violenta, y no sólo unir nuestro esfuerzo para que la escuela WHINSEC cierre, pero intentar cambiar la política de los E.E.U.U. en América Latina.

Durante los tres ultimos años, he trabajado como co-organizadora de delegaciones a Colombia, como parte de una sociedad entre el 8th Day Center for Justice y Witness for Peace y SOAW. My name is Erin Cox and I currently live in Chicago IL. I have been on staff with 8th Day Center for Justice for three years. 8th Day Center is a multi-issue faith based organization that has had a history of working in solidarity with Central and South America since this organization began 35 years ago. In college I traveled on a delegation with Christians for Peace in El Salvador where I first heard and witnessed the impact of the SOA on the people and resistance movements and leaders in El Salvador. I later lived on a farm in Honduras and in Guatemala where I witnessed more of the negative impacts of US policy and overwhelming dominance and control of US and international corporate influence in the region.

As mentioned earlier, 8th Day Center staff have been committed to the SOAW movement for years and continues to work on a local, national and international level to raise awareness, support and participate in nonviolent resistance, and engage in collective efforts not only close the WHINSEC, but change US policy in Latin America.

Over the last three years, I have worked to co-coordinate delegations to Colombia, as part of a partnership between 8th Day Center for Justice Witness for Peace and SOAW. In addition, I am part of the November vigil planning team as a Peacemaker Representative to provide nonviolence training and support throughout the November vigil. I currently represent the Illinois SOAW organizing group. This group has had a history of active involvement with the SOAW movement and continues to want to be engaged in collective efforts to continue to resist the SOA and build strong partnerships with our brothers and sisters in Latin America.

My hope for the Encuentro is to learn ways in which groups from the United States can become better allies and advocates for the resistance movements and human rights activists in Central and South America. I hope to participate in the Encuentro in ways that demonstrate solidarity and support to those present. My greatest hope is that this Encuentro creates a safe space to build relationships in which open communication and collective strategizing provide short and long term support for ongoing efforts of resistance in Central and South America.

Estados Unidos - Enzo Bard

Enzo Bard, nativo de Argentina, viviendo desde 1975 en el exilio.

En el pasado: activo en el movimiento estudiantil en La Plata (Argentina), y luego, en el sindicato United University Professions de la Universidad del Estado de Nueva York.

Enzo Bard, born in Argentina, exiled since 1975, In the past was active in the student’s movement in La Plata (Argentina) and then in United University Professions, a union at SUNY. Currently treasurer of Freeport Community Worklink Center and Board member of Long Island SOAW. Being originally from Latin America, expressing solidarity with the South is natural for me.

Encuentro should build permanent communication bridges between activists from the North and South, enabling the sharing of experiences in the struggles under the varied conditions of our countries, and facilitating the coordination of activities to counter militarism and other devastating effects of the foreign policy of the US.

Estados Unidos - Kate Speltz

Soy Kate Speltz y vivo en Seattle, Washington. Trabajo para el Gobierno del Condado como una planificadora en el área de alojamiento y falta de hogar. Me involucre con el trabajo de solidaridad Latinoamericano en los años 1980; trabajé con refugiados Centroamericanos en mi parroquia era, una iglesia de santuario. He estado involucrada con SOAW durante aproximadamente 15 años, y soy un activo miembro de SOAW - Sonido de Puget, trabajando para mantener SOA y otros temas relacionados al ojo público. I am Kate Speltz and I live in Seattle, Washington. I work for county government as a planner in the area of housing and homelessness. I became involved with Latin American solidarity work in the 1980s; I worked with Central American refugees and my parish was a sanctuary church. I have been involved with SOAW for about 15 years, and am active in SOAW - Puget Sound, working to keep the SOA and related issues in the public eye. I hope the encuentro will be a real dialogue and set a foundation and framework for us to move forward together in our efforts to confront the SOA and US militarism in Latin America.

Estados Unidos - Robert Nixon

Robert Nixon, California Oakland. Mi primera coneccion con SOAW fue en la Vigilia de 2000 en Ft.. Benning. Me conmovió profundamente y al volver a casa algunos de nosotros formamos un grupo local que ha participado en la vigilia desde entonces.

Soy un ex-sacerdote y terapeuta familiar, también he estado trabajando los últimos diez años en una escuela en la ciudad con niños en su mayoría de México y América Central que han venido aquí con sus familias por motivos políticos y económicos, a menudo vienen por causa de las acciones de SOA en su pais.

He participado en la supervisión de elecciones en El Salvador, aprendiendo mucho cada vez.

Me siento honrado de ser parte de este Encuentro. Espero que las relaciones duraderas se pondrá formar en este Encuentro, la inspiración para compartir y desarrollar planes para acercarnos a un hemisferio donde nuestros hijos puedan crecer juntos sin peligro.

Robert Nixon, Oakland California. I was first introduced to the SOAW at the 2000 Vigil at Ft. Benning. I was deeply moved and on returning home a number of us formed a local group that has been involved since.

As a former priest and family therapist, I have also been working the past ten years in a local inner city school with children mostly from Mexico and Central America coming here with their families for political and economic reasons often the direct results of SOA actions in their homeland.

I have also participated in election monitoring in El Salvador learning much each time.

I’m honored to be part of this Encuentro. I’m expecting that lasting relationships will be started here, inspiration shared and plans developed to move us closer to a hemisphere where our children can grow up together without threat.
